sampler logistics

The Sampler Project is underway and I’m getting a better idea of how long it takes me to make each of these pieces (good news — not very long). The thing that’s taking the longest is working out logistics: Do I want these all to be the same size? How should I package the finished pieces? Should I describe the project, or just let the message be a mystery?

I figure the project is still in a beta version at the moment, so right now I’ve come up with a few solutions that might well change in the future. Here’s a little info about the process thus far:

the sampler project

*** This project is on hiatus until after I finish grad school.  I have a few pieces to make and send (and I will do that for sure), so please be patient if you requested one that hasn’t gone out yet.  I’ll get the ball rolling on this again sometime after May 2011. ****

In the comment field below, type a positive message for someone, the name of the person needing the message, and your own name. I will embroider all of this and send it to the recipient.

These things are absolutely essential:

1 – Keep it positive. Yes, sometimes people need a kick in the pants, but this is not the forum for that.

2 – Keep it short. Use Twitter as your guide and keep sayings to 140 characters or less.

3 – Include your own name and the name of the person you’d like to receive your message. Please also include your e-mail address so I can reach you later (I promise these will not be sold and will not appear on the comments page for others to see).

4 – Keep it specific.  If I receive more than three requests for a particular message, I’ll retire it. Or maybe I’ll make a bunch of them and sell them on Etsy. We’ll see if it comes to that.

I will contact you via e-mail so I can get the address of your recipient.  Please don’t request an object for yourself–this is about spreading the love. If you want a piece have someone request a phrase for you.

One more thing: this is an entirely free service. Well, free to you. If you like the project and would like to help me defer my costs, feel free to donate through the PayPal link below. (But, again, there is no charge for these messages. Donate only if you really want to.)

excellent job getting married, you guys. now go clean the kitchen.

The weddings these days have been amazing. Maggie and Mike, Aren and Mallary, I honestly don’t know how you guys put together such good parties, but I’m so glad I got to be there.

new dress, old pattern

about seven years ago i bought a bunch of vintage patterns off of ebay and this is the first thing i’ve made with them. seeing the finished product, i feel like this should have been more of a priority.

happy summer, me!

school is finally out for the summer, so in the meantime i am making small things that make me happy, like this cd case. and, yes, i did make a mistake on the number of tracks on the cd. i didn’t do this to illustrate coco’s words: “nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get.” what an appropriate mistake, though. happy birthday, amy!

new things

got a new camera and had to make a protective case for it.  thanks to maggie (not the same maggie with the napkins, but equally awesome) for my new collection of felt.  i have a feeling i’m going to find a lot of cool stuff to do with it.

oh yoko

i think she’s the best. (i also think these puppets are the best, but i did not make them.)

more pictures

i made these a few weeks ago, but i figure it’s nice to put the pics online.  the cards are on white cotton cardstock, they measure about 5″ x 7″, they have a deckle edge, and they will be available for sale soon.

this post comes with pictures

okay, so work on this site is progressing slowly but steadily. i’m still ironing out the layout.

in the meantime, enjoy these pictures of napkins i just made using upcycled textiles.

just a little while longer…

i’m working on it.  soon, my pet.
