Artist Statement

I am at once a luddite and technophile—both a champion of carefully handmade objects, and a drooling acolyte of the new, the mass-produced, and the instant. My work springs from this duality.

In my work, I juxtapose outmoded and cutting edge technologies to highlight how each changes our concept of interpersonal connection, meaningful communication, and timeliness. I try to make this happen in ways that are humorous and illuminating. By combining hand-drawn animation, traditional shadow puppetry, bookbinding, and fiber arts with new media methods of generating, fabricating, and disseminating work, I aim to expose the strengths and limitations of both the old and the new methods of making.
